Getting to Know Budapest

Tour length: 3.5 to 4 hours
A walking tour with a bit of public transport — to save time (and your feet). Perfect for those who want to experience the most iconic landmarks of Budapest in a short time.

We’ll start right where you are — your hotel, apartment, or even the train station — and set off to discover the highlights of both Buda and Pest.

You’ll hear how it all began: what the Romans were doing here, how the Hungarians arrived, and why they stayed.

We’ll explore the Buda Castle District and find out why the castle might never have existed... if not for one huge national disaster.

You’ll learn how the fortress grew in the Middle Ages, what secrets it still keeps, and what’s hiding in its quiet corners. We’ll see the Royal Palace, the Matthias Fountain, the old town, Matthias Church, and the Fisherman’s Bastion.
Then — over to Pest!
We’ll visit the most beautiful Parliament building in Europe (yes, really!) and hear what it has to say — including a tale about Hungary’s sacred crown, kept right inside.

We’ll also admire St. Stephen’s Basilica, the country’s main Catholic church. Want to go in? We can — and I’ll show you Hungary’s most treasured relic. Curious what it is? I’ll tell you on the tour :)

We won’t skip Andrássy Avenue — Pest’s version of the Champs-Élysées — and we’ll hop on the city’s retro metro M1, the very first on the European continent.

We’ll visit Heroes’ Square, too — and learn who these “heroes” really were (hint: not all of them started out that way).

A short stroll through City Park will take us to a castle with a mysterious name — built for Hungary’s 1000th birthday.

We’ll explore its mix of architectural styles and stories, and maybe even make a wish — with the help of a rather scary-looking statue who’s actually quite kind inside.

Along the way, we’ll catch hidden gems, local legends, and everything fun, strange, and unexpected this city throws at us.
