A Fresh Look at the Jewish Quarter

Duration: 2 hours | Fully on foot
Street art isn’t just scribbles on walls anymore — it’s a whole genre, full of meaning, humor, and social commentary. It speaks to us about life, history, and everything in between.

And it’s not just murals! We’ll also spot paste-ups, statues, and unexpected installations hiding in plain sight.
We’ll go treasure-hunting through the streets, decoding what these artworks are trying to say — or shout — at us.

Our walk begins at the legendary New York Café, once the favorite haunt of writers, poets, and artists at the turn of the 20th century. If they couldn’t pay the bill — they paid in poems (or piano scores). Just across the street, the Jewish Quarter begins — which, these days, is more about bars and nightlife than synagogues and kosher bakeries.

We’ll walk straight through it — and talk about how it turned into the city’s youth-and-party hub. Why is it covered in graffiti? Where are the police? What do the city authorities say? And, honestly... who’s paying for all this?

Along the way, we’ll find iconic street art pieces and uncover the stories they tell. And maybe even spot something brand new — because street art is alive and always changing. You never know what fresh creation might pop up overnight.

We’ll wrap up the tour in Budapest’s most famous ruin bar — Szimpla Kert. You’ll learn why ruin bars started right here, what makes them different from regular bars, and (bonus!) where to take the weirdest photos ever.
