Transfer from your hotel in Budapest to your hotel in Krakow with a guided tour in English in Zakopane, the mountain paradise of the Tatra mountains, with optional cable car trip
Duration: approximately 12 hours
The journey begins in the lobby of your hotel in Budapest. We then drive to the High Tatras approximately 5 hours away from the Hungarian capital. After arriving to Zakopane, your will take an English guided tour around the most important tourist attractions of the mountain resort.
The Atma house in Zakopane, a 19th century villa built in the Zakopane style has been restored to its original glory and splendor in May 2013. The tour then takes you to the Tatra Museum, the oldest working ethnic museum of Poland, opened in 1889. As a tribute to one of its founders, the museum has been renamed after Doctor Tytus Chalubinski.
A little further down the Krupowki street, the Parish Church of the Saint Family offers an example of Neo-Roman architecture. The Koscieliska Street is next, the oldest street of Zakopane, featuring numerous original old constructions, many of them older than a 100 years. All house entrances face North, according to the traditional setup. The Zakopane style architecture is a distinct style that characterizes the architectural uniqueness of the Tatra mountain constructions and reveals insight to the life that has been lived in the altitudes for centuries.
Enter the wooden Church of Holy May of Czestochowa, the first parish church of the town, exuding the serenity of the wooden altar and the stylish, traditional ornaments. Then, have a walk around the Old Cemetery “Peksowe Bryzko”, a mid-19th century burial place, where victims of the Tatra mountain accidents are buried amongst other great Polish personalities, including Tytus Chalubinski, Bronislaw Czech and Helena Marusarzowna, great Olympic champions murdered by the Nazis during the World War II. Some of the tombs are national monuments today.
A little further, on the Koscieliska Street, the Willa Koliba shelters the Zakopane Style Museum. The museum presents on its three floors a rich collection of Highland artifacts, musical instruments and everyday life utensils and products.
Harness the 2 hours of free time after the visit to have a late lunch at one of the lovely cozy restaurants offering local specialties on the main pedestrian street, the Krupowski Street, and take the Gubałówka cable car to the peak and observe the scenic view of the surrounding mountains. The bottom cable car station is just a 5-minute walk away from the city center.
